How to Keep Your Pet Comfy This Winter

How to Keep Your Pet Comfy This Winter

There’s nothing like snuggling up with your pet on a cold winter’s day. You keep each other warm and cozy while forging a bond like no other. But let’s face it: cuddling isn’t an option all the time, so you’ll need other ways to keep your pet warm and comfy.

Pets that play outdoors in cold weather need a way to warm up when needed. From snuggling bedding to outdoor gear, we’ve found the best ways to keep your furry friends comfortable in the winter, no matter how frosty it gets outside.

1. Create a Cozy Pet Hotel

Your pet’s comfort starts at home. They need a warm, soft place to rest during winter. Whether your pet stays inside or somewhere outdoors like your garage or a kennel, a pet hotel keeps them out of the elements.

Start with a pet carrier or crate that’s enclosed on all sides (except for the door, of course). Then, start adding comfy bedding, pillows, or even a heating pad with a timer and controls. It’s a lush experience that might even make you a little jealous.

Once you have the basics, place your pet’s new hotel away from drafty windows or doors as best as possible.

2. Choose a Soft-Sided Pet Carrier

Soft-sided carriers are a great option for keeping your pet warm and secure, especially if you’re traveling for Christmas or making a trip to the vet in winter. These carriers include padded interiors and zippered closures that help retain heat.

Keep them even warmer by lining the carrier with a thermal blanket or placing a blanket over the carrier. Your pet will love its portable den and can even use it year-round.

3. Keep Them Active

Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean your pet has to hibernate. Playtime in the winter is super important because it helps them stay warmer naturally. All that extra movement gets the blood flowing, letting your pet burn off energy while creating heat.

Try puzzle feeders, interactive toys, or even creating an indoor obstacle course to get them up and on their feet. If you have a PetLuv soft-sided pet carrier, you can include it in the fun by hiding treats or toys inside.

4. Dress for the Weather

Smaller breeds, senior pets, and pets with short coats might need an extra layer to keep warm. Try dressing them up in a cute sweater or padded harness when they’re out and about. It will help them stay warm without restricting their jumping, running, and playing.
